Mike Seiman, co-founder, CEO and Chairman of CPX Interactive (and this week’s live chat host -- RSVP here) founded the earliest incarnation of his fast-growing company while still a college student at Hofstra University in the early 2000s.
By the time he graduated in 2001, Mike had already become a self-made leader in understanding online advertising -- and his unique vision has turned CPX into one of the most cutting edge global advertising firms out there, period.
Even the company’s name is a reflection of their agility. It basically means “CP-activity,” Seiman told Jay Gould of Foundville.
“Hopefully for anyone in the space, it stands for cross per x [SP]. It stands for the ability to be nimble, and the ability to meld through the space, as things change in the space all the time.”
As a result of the team’s hard work, today, CPX Interactive delivers more than 90 billion online ad impressions in over 65 countries, every single month.
Plus, Mike was selected as a semi-finalist in Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year initiative in both 2009 and 2010, and CPX regularly makes Inc.’s list of fastest growing privately held advertising/marketing companies (most recently in ‘08 and ‘09). Just this year, CPX was named one of OnMedia’s Top 100 Private Companies.
But Mike’s drive to succeed isn’t about money or traditional success -- it’s about passion, excellence, and more importantly, living every day to the fullest.
In his spare time, Mike serves on the Board of Advisors of Hofstra University. He's also involved in several philanthropic initiatives, including sitting on the boards of the H.E.S. (Hebrew Educational Society nonprofit community center) and Children's International, where he spearheaded the development of a community center in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
He also executive produced a feature-length film picked up by Lionsgate -- a side passion that, like everything else, Mike takes very seriously.
“I’ve seen that life is short,” he told Gould. Mike lost his brother to heart disease; he himself is a type 1 diabetic. But that only spurs him to do more and do it better.
“Every day, if you’re not having fun, if you’re not enjoying yourself, if you’re not making the most of it, if you’re not getting out of bed and bettering your health, life, and what you put forth on this earth...I think there’s psychologically something in my brain that makes me wake up and say, ‘I’ve got to get started. I’ve got to do something.’”
If you want to know more about what gets Mike Seiman out of bed in the morning, join us at 3 p.m. EST this Thursday, March 21st for an hour-long #StartupLab live chat with him, presented by Citi. Mike’s ready to answer your questions, whatever they may be, on topics ranging from scaling a college startup to conquering the online ad space to living life fully, no matter what your circumstances are.
