What’s the single best piece of business advice that helped shape who you are as an entrepreneur today, and why?
If I had to pick just one piece of advice for the new entrepreneur, it would be to never give up. If somebody tells you that you can't accomplish your goal, don't listen to them. Just power through the hardships and keep your objective as your primary focus.
What’s the biggest mistake you ever made in your business, and what did you learn from it that others can learn from too?
Every new startup makes errors. It's just part of the territory. Probably the biggest mistake I ever made was trying to take on everything myself. I am most definitely a control freak. I want my hands on everything, but that isn't possible when you start lining up customer after customer.
Delegation is a necessity.
What do you do during the first hour of your business day and why?
When I first get to the office, I check up on any outstanding accounts and make a schedule for the day. By doing this, I make sure I get done what needs to get done and stay on schedule. In the special events industry, there is always hard deadline.
What’s your best financial or cash-flow related tip for entrepreneurs just getting started?
Stay in the black! All startups start in debt. That's just the way it is, but make a promise to yourself that once you hit the black, you'll stay there.
Quick: What’s ONE thing you recommend ALL aspiring or current entrepreneurs do right now to take their biz to the next level?
Get experience and network. It is amazing what others in your business can teach you. Most of all, don't be afraid to ask for help.
What's your definition of success? How will you know when you've finally "succeeded" in your business?
The definition of success is happiness. If you are happy with where your company is, you have succeeded.
